About the role#
As a Nurse Extern, you will provide direct patient care and support under the supervision of an RN or Clinical Manager. This role focuses on assisting patients with daily needs and monitoring their health status in a medical-surgical environment. You will follow established policies to ensure patient safety and comfort while gaining practical experience in a clinical setting.
What you'll do#
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, mobility, and feeding.
- Measure and record vital signs, intake and output, oxygenation, and patient weight.
- Observe and report changes in patient conditions or reports of pain to an RN.
- Assist with bathing, oral care, and shampooing.
- Monitor skin integrity and perform position changes to prevent skin breakdown.
- Apply and remove medical equipment such as anti-embolism stockings, sequential-compression devices, and Buck's traction.
- Implement fall prevention interventions and follow the SKIN bundle protocols.
- Maintain equipment and supplies as needed.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Current enrollment in an accredited registered nursing program with at least one completed clinical rotation.
- Active CPR certification.
- Ability to perform physical duties including lifting and transferring patients using proper body mechanics.
- Availability to work variable shifts, including holidays and weekends.
- Basic computer skills.
- Prior hospital or healthcare experience and knowledge of the hospital environment are preferred.
