About the role#
This is an 8-month, full-time co-op position starting in January 2027. You will work on-site at our Trail Operations facility in British Columbia. We are looking for students with a background in process control to join our engineering team for the winter term.
What you'll do#
- Act as a safety leader by following and promoting all environmental and safety procedures.
- Support the maintenance, development, and upgrading of process control systems.
- Perform day-to-day troubleshooting of industrial equipment and processes.
- Analyze data to identify trends, find root causes, and build solutions.
- Develop strategies for process simulation, optimization, and advanced control.
- Create and test new ideas to improve our current control systems.
- Work with operations and engineering teams to manage project costs, schedules, and progress.
- Maintain and improve the quality of technical documentation.
- Operate vehicles across various terrains and weather conditions as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a 3rd or 4th year student in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution.
- Studies in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, Metallurgy, Chemical, or Mechanical engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to use drawing programs like AutoCAD and Visio.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Willingness to work outdoors in an industrial plant environment.
- Knowledge of PLC hardware, logic, and Distributed Control Systems is preferred.
- Experience with Python or MATLAB for data analysis and simulation is preferred.
- Previous technical or engineering work experience is considered an asset.

- Location: Trail, British Columbia, Canada.
- Duration: 8 months, starting January 2027.
- Compensation: CAD $4,833 - $6,125 per month, depending on experience and skills.
