About the role#
Sunflower Electric Power Corporation is hiring a Substation Technician Intern to join our team in Garden City, Dodge City, or Colby, Kansas. This is a full-time, paid internship that offers hands-on experience in the utility industry. You will work outdoors across our service territory while receiving one-on-one training from our team.
What you'll do#
You will assist with the installation, inspection, testing, and repair of substation equipment. This includes working with power transformers, load tap changers, high voltage circuit breakers, switchgear, and electronic systems. Much of your work involves alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) circuits between 48 and 600 volts. You will also learn to read and interpret construction drawings, manufacturers’ specifications, schematic diagrams, and substation drawings.
What you'll need#
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a post-high school technical certification program. We are looking for students studying industrial electrical, instrument and control, or electronics.

This is an on-site, full-time role based in Garden City, Dodge City, or Colby, Kansas. The position is available on a rolling basis.
