About the role#
The Registrar Intern will assist with permanent collection and exhibition management. This role provides direct experience with museum registration tasks, including inventory management, condition reporting, and database maintenance. Interns will collaborate with the Registrars and the Collections Database Manager to support upcoming exhibitions and ongoing collection projects.
What you'll do#
- Support the Registrars and Collections Database Manager with upcoming exhibitions.
- Manage permanent collection inventory.
- Conduct condition reporting for artwork.
- Digitize acquisition files.
- Perform database cleanup.
- Work independently on assigned projects while communicating progress to staff.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student status in Art, History, Communications, Anthropology, Sociology, Civil Engineering, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Interest in fine art registration and cataloging.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong research skills.
- Ability to work with databases.
- Knowledge of the museum’s historical collecting focus.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work in a chilled, windowless storage environment.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
Location & details#
- Location: New York, New York (On-site).
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 14, 2026, to December 18, 2026).
- Commitment: 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- Schedule: Interns must work on-site three days per week, with Tuesdays being a mandatory day.
- Compensation: This is a paid position with a stipend of $5,040.
