The Registrar Intern supports the permanent collection and exhibition management teams at the Studio Museum in Harlem. This role provides hands-on experience in museum registration and collections management, involving collaboration with museum staff on various operational projects. This is a paid, 14-week internship designed for undergraduate and graduate students.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Registrars and Collections Database Manager with upcoming exhibition preparations.
- Conduct permanent collection inventory and condition reporting.
- Perform database cleanup and digitize acquisition files.
- Manage multiple collection-related projects simultaneously.
- Work independently to complete assigned tasks and communicate progress effectively.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment or recent graduation in Art, History, Communications, Anthropology, Sociology, Civil Engineering, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- Interest in fine art registration and cataloging.
- Strong research skills and attention to detail.
- Experience or ability to work with databases.
- Familiarity with the museum’s historical collecting focus.
- Ability to work in a chilled, windowless storage environment.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Location & details#
- Location: New York, New York (On-site).
- Term: Fall 2026 (September 14, 2026 – December 18, 2026).
- Commitment: 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- Schedule: Three days per week on-site, including a mandatory Tuesday attendance.
- Compensation: $5,040 stipend.
