About the role#
The Robert Rauschenberg Curatorial Fellowship is a 12-month position designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to curatorial work. The fellow will work under the direction of the Associate Curator to support projects ranging from research and writing to production and logistical coordination. This role offers the opportunity to join a cohort of fellows, interface with internal departments, and connect with external partners in the museum field.
What you'll do#
- Assist the Associate Curator with producing didactic texts and research for exhibition-related publications.
- Support the development of exhibition proposals, schedules, and production deadlines.
- Coordinate studio visits and conduct artist research.
- Provide organizational, administrative, and project support for the Museum’s exhibitions and collections.
- Contribute research and writing about works in the collection for Studio magazine and the Museum website.
- Assist with cross-departmental coordination to support the Museum mission.
What you'll need#
- Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, or an adjacent field.
- Strong background in mid-twentieth century and contemporary art by artists of African descent.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Familiarity with The Museum System (TMS/TMS Collections) and NetX.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working in a museum or cultural organization is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team while managing shifting priorities.

- Location: New York, New York.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $50,000 annually based on a 35-hour work week.
- Benefits: Includes medical, dental, life and long-term disability insurance, a retirement account, vacation time, and a $2,500 stipend for an approved research trip.
