About the role#
The Archives and Records Management intern will join the Collections, Exhibitions, and Design department to support a pilot project focused on centralizing access to artwork-related documentation. Working one-on-one with the Archivist and Records Manager, the intern will gain hands-on experience in records management, collections information management, and digital asset management within a museum context.
What you'll do#
- Survey and inventory incoming born-digital documents.
- Upload and describe documents into the museum’s digital asset management system.
- Ensure incoming information about objects is accurately reflected in the collection management system.
- Compile digital object files and produce inventories and file maps.
- Draft or update standards and procedures for organizing and describing digital object records.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Archives and Art Resources department.
What you'll need#
- Current student or recent graduate of a Masters-level program in library science, records management, museum studies, or a related field.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Genuine interest in archives and records management within a museum setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft 365 (including Teams and SharePoint), and task-management tools like Asana and Airtable.
- Experience handling fragile objects, specifically paper and audiovisual materials.
Location & details#
- Term: Fall 2026.
- Work Modality: Fully on-site.
- Commitment: At least 3 hours per week, with duration based on the school schedule.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Applicants must provide proof of eligibility to receive school credit.
- Location: Work is divided between the museum’s Third Street location in San Francisco and the Collection Center in South San Francisco.
