About the role#
The Customer Assistance and Processing Unit at the California Student Aid Commission is hiring a Student Assistant. You will support students, families, and school administrators by answering questions about financial aid programs like the Cal Grant, California Dream Act, and the Middle-Class Scholarship. This role offers hands-on experience in a professional office environment while you help others navigate the financial aid process.
What you'll do#
- Answer incoming calls and provide information on financial aid programs.
- Process student forms and applications with high attention to detail.
- Document customer contacts and maintain accurate account records.
- Provide technical support for the WebGrants4Students portal, including troubleshooting registration issues.
- Escalate complex technical errors or sensitive customer concerns to supervisors.
- Communicate with customers via email and phone to resolve inquiries.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a college student at an accredited institution on the university affiliation list.
- Minimum enrollment of six-semester units or nine-quarter units for undergraduate students.
- A declared major in Business Administration, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, or Anthropology.
- Ability to work effectively in a call center environment.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency with computer systems.
- Ability to learn and apply program regulations and policies.
Location & details#
- This position is fully remote. You must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
- The schedule is flexible, Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 5 PM.
- You may work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours during school breaks.
- This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited position.
