About the role#
This position is a part-time, temporary role for a student assistant. You will work under the supervision of a Senior Transportation Engineer in the Office of Geotechnical Design Policy and Practice. The work involves a mix of office tasks and field duties. You must reside in California and perform all work within the state.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the development of a smartphone application and sensing hardware for pile driving monitoring.
- Build smartphone and computer applications, including web-based data entry interfaces and databases.
- Create geotechnical databases, engineering applications, and project management systems.
- Work in both office and field environments, which may include exposure to various weather conditions and uneven terrain.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a college student in Computer Engineering or a related field, carrying at least six-semester units or nine quarter units.
- A minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
- Experience with front-end and back-end web development.
- Knowledge of C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, React, Node.js, Bootstrap, OpenCV, Artificial Intelligence, and Visual Studio Code.
- Ability to program embedded systems using ESP32 and Raspberry Pi Pico microcontrollers.
- Familiarity with relational databases like MySQL or Microsoft SQL Server and the use of SQL.
Location & details#
- Location: Sacramento, California.
- Pay: $18.28 to $28.16 per hour.
- Schedule: Flexible hours between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday. You may work up to 24 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during breaks.
