About the role#
Space Dynamics Laboratory is looking for a student to join the team as a Lab Assistant. This role offers hands-on experience through the Student Scholar Program, which includes technical workshops and outreach activities. You will work in a cleanroom environment supporting contamination control and aerospace hardware maintenance.
What you'll do#
- Assist with laboratory-wide contamination control activities.
- Perform chemical and thermal vacuum laboratory tasks.
- Conduct chemical analysis and materials testing.
- Handle precision cleaning of aerospace hardware.
- Stock and maintain cleanroom and laboratory supplies.
- Work 15-20 hours per week during the school year and 30-40 hours per week during the summer.
- Lift up to 50 lbs and reach overhead as needed.
- Use Personal Protective Equipment in a cleanroom setting.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment at Utah State University in chemistry, physics, or a related field.
- At least one year of school remaining.
- U.S. citizenship or status as a lawful permanent resident.
- Ability to apply safe laboratory practices.
- Strong aptitude for lab work and applying basic principles of chemistry and physics.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivation and the ability to follow through on tasks.
- Successful completion of general chemistry lecture and lab is preferred.
