About the role#
The Operations Engineering Intern supports the Network Planning Department by evaluating aircraft fleet performance and operational needs. You will contribute to projects that ensure our aircraft operate safely and efficiently across our network. This role involves working at the intersection of engineering, operations, fleet strategy, and technology. You will gain hands-on experience with aircraft under supervision and present your findings to leadership.
What you'll do#
- Work on engineering projects within a maintenance or operations environment.
- Update and maintain aircraft performance calculations.
- Conduct airport capability analysis and market studies to support operations.
- Develop iOS and web-based applications.
- Build and maintain data structures for analytics projects.
- Prepare documentation to justify engineering proposals.
- Present research and analysis to department leadership.
- Assist with special projects and events.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical, Computer, or Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Aviation Maintenance Science.
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- At least 18 years of age with a valid U.S. Social Security Number.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Preferred: At least 3 semesters remaining after the internship ends.
- Preferred: Previous experience in an engineering role or aviation environment.
- Preferred: Knowledge of technical writing, engineering drawings, software development, or data analytics.
Location & details#
- Location: Dallas, Texas (on-site at corporate headquarters).
- Term: Summer 2027 (May 18 to August 8, 2027).
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Compensation: $24 - $28 per hour, based on progress toward degree.
- Travel: Includes free, unlimited space-available travel privileges.
- Note: U.S. citizenship or current work authorization is required. Sponsorship is not available.
