About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will join our Nuclear Power Group for the summer of 2027. You will work on a project team under the direction of senior engineers. Your work will focus on the design of new systems or modifications to existing power plant and industrial facility components. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Chicago.
What you'll do#
- Assist engineering team members with project execution.
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, and specifications.
- Track and evaluate project activities, progress, and associated data.
- Solve engineering problems using modern tools like automation and AI to improve workflows and design efficiency.
- Use programming or scripting skills, such as Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel, to automate calculations and reporting.
What you'll need#
- Completion of coursework toward a BS in Mechanical Engineering.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong PC skills.
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited engineering program is preferred.
- Prior internship or co-op experience is valued.
- Understanding of the practical application of mechanical engineering principles is valued.
- Additional training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Software Engineering is a plus.
