About the role#
The Commercial Cell Culture Development team seeks a motivated student for a six-month co-op. You will support upstream bioprocess development activities and gain hands-on experience in optimizing mammalian cell culture processes for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. This role involves working directly with process engineering, analytical development, and manufacturing teams.
What you'll do#
- Design, execute, and analyze cell culture experiments to optimize upstream bioprocess parameters like media and feed conditions.
- Support the development and optimization of perfusion-based cell culture processes, including the evaluation of cell retention devices.
- Contribute to the development and qualification of scale-down models that represent manufacturing-scale bioreactors.
- Evaluate sparger designs to understand their impact on gas transfer, shear stress, and foam formation.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, then prepare technical summaries and presentations.
- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and documentation.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to scientific discussions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biology, or a related field.
- Foundational knowledge of cell culture techniques, bioreactor operation, and bioprocess principles.
- Experience with aseptic technique, cell viability assays, and basic analytical methods.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel or JMP.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- An analytical and problem-solving mindset.
- Familiarity with AI tools and a strong interest in perfusion-based bioprocesses.
- Permanent authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for visa sponsorship.
Location & details#
- Location: Framingham, Massachusetts.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Modality: On-site.
- Enrollment: Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university throughout the duration of the co-op.
