About the role#
This internship supports our certification efforts to become a Wildlife Habitat Council Partner. You will follow research study protocols, select representative observation areas, and catalogue both diurnal and nocturnal species. The role concludes with the preparation of a final report and a short presentation summarizing your findings. You will also assist in completing the Wildlife Habitat Council application.
What you'll do#
- Employ audio, aural, and visual survey techniques.
- Identify and begin control measures for invasive species.
- Conduct visual and audio bird surveys.
- Perform spotlight surveys for nocturnal mammals.
- Execute aural amphibian surveys.
- Carry out reptile opportunistic and time searches.
- Complete vegetation transects and area plots.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a 4-year Bachelor's degree in Biology, with an emphasis in zoology, wildlife management, or ecological sciences.
- Standing as a rising Junior or Senior.
- Familiarity with field survey techniques.
- Ability to work outdoors during hot weather.

- Location: Clayton, North Carolina.
- Term: Winter 2027.
- Schedule: Part-time, 20 hours per week.
- Status: Paid internship.
