About the role#
The Materials and Process Engineering Department is seeking a Mechanical Materials Engineer Intern to join our team in Andover, Massachusetts. You will work within the Hardware Team to support development, design, and failure analysis activities for a variety of product applications. This role requires managing multiple tasks simultaneously while collaborating with design engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers.
What you'll do#
- Assess materials, parts, and hardware for conformance to specifications and design requirements.
- Follow standard written protocols and develop unique test plans and setups.
- Review material documentation and specifications.
- Engage with subject matter experts to understand material usage.
- Coordinate with suppliers.
- Perform mechanical testing to support design and failure analysis.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience with lab equipment such as Universal Testing Machines, hardness testers, scanning electron microscopes, or polishers and grinders.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Understanding of material safety datasheets, military specifications, and ASTM test methods.
- Coursework in Materials Science and Polymer Science.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses.
- Demonstrated ability to apply technical coursework through class projects, internships, or research.

- This is a full-time, paid internship located on-site in Andover, Massachusetts.
- The role operates on a rolling basis.
