As an intern, you will work across additive manufacturing systems and conventional processes to support the design and flight readiness of our rockets. You will gain exposure to engineering, manufacturing, and operations while contributing to the development of reusable launch technology.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and optimize materials for additive manufacturing systems like L-PBF, WAAM, DED, and CSAM.
- Engineer the impact of new additive technologies on material microstructure and properties.
- Build tools and systems to improve materials and process engineering activities.
- Conduct hands-on characterization projects to refine our methods and materials.
- Perform techniques in the MET Lab, including mechanical testing, metallography, SEM/EDS, thermal analysis, and chemical analysis.
- Assist in the validation of new characterization methods for Terran R and internal R&D.
- Collaborate with engineering and technician teams to complete projects and communicate your results.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
- You have prior experience that demonstrates technical understanding and problem-solving capability.
- You are a self-starter who can manage multiple projects and connect your work to team objectives.
- You are comfortable wearing multiple hats and developing technical skills beyond your core focus.
- Familiarity with aerospace alloy systems, metal additive manufacturing technologies, or metals processing techniques like welding and heat treating is helpful but not required.
