About the role#
As a Software Engineer Intern, you will join one of three core teams: Vehicle Software, Flight Software, or Terrestrial Software. You will work alongside senior engineers on real aerospace hardware, contributing to the development of the Terran R rocket and its associated factory and launch infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to solve complex problems, collaborate across engineering disciplines, and deliver projects that improve system efficiency and reliability.
What you'll do#
- Develop, debug, and test software for microcontrollers and RTOS-based systems.
- Perform driver development, hardware bring-up, and lab testing.
- Build and test factory, operational, and data software to support production and launch.
- Collaborate with Avionics and Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) teams.
- Interface with hardware in the avionics lab and participate in design discussions.
- Join sprint planning and work directly with users to build applications.
- Deliver projects that drive data-based decisions and system reliability.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong programming fundamentals with experience in languages such as C, C++, Rust, Python, Java, or Go.
- Experience with software development processes, including source control, bug tracking, and design documentation.
- Familiarity with unit and integration testing.
- Ability to work collaboratively on complex projects.
- Hands-on experience or coursework in embedded systems, microcontrollers, or RTOS development.
- Familiarity with digital and analog electronics.
- Experience with debugging tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD, or serial consoles.

- Locations: Long Beach, California, and Stennis Space Center, Mississippi.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment: Full-time.
- Compensation: $39 - $44 per hour.
- Note: Stennis Space Center internships require your own transportation.
