About the role#
As a Weld Development Engineer Intern, you will report to the Senior Weld Engineer. You will focus on fusion welding processes for the Terran-R vehicle, including GTAW, orbital tube, and laser welding. You will help develop and qualify new processes and create weld procedure specifications that follow AWS D17.1 standards.
What you'll do#
- Support the development and qualification of fusion welding processes.
- Perform weld procedure qualification and generate specifications.
- Assist manufacturing teams with welding operations, root cause investigations, and production challenges.
- Ensure process quality control by reviewing documentation against specifications.
- Implement corrective actions and drive continuous improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize welding processes, equipment, and tools.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for Weld Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field.
- A strong foundation in materials and welding processes.
- Hands-on experience with GTAW, semi-auto GTAW, orbital tube welding, or laser welding.
- A proactive, hands-on approach to learning and a strong work ethic.
- Clear communication skills.
- An interest in aerospace and space applications.
- Preference for candidates pursuing a degree in Weld Engineering.
- Familiarity with AWS D17.1 and related welding standards is a plus.
