About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Mechanical Engineering internship for Summer 2027. You will join the Precision Control and Actuation Systems department in Tucson, Arizona. This position is on-site. Please note that U.S. citizenship is required to obtain the necessary Department of Defense Secret security clearance.
What you'll do#
- Perform mechanical design and development activities.
- Collaborate with team members and program experts to solve engineering problems.
- Contribute to project development by determining approaches and solutions for mechanical systems.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Advanced degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours by the start of the internship.
- Experience with CAD tools such as CREO or similar software.
- Proficiency in engineering analysis, simulation, and programming tools, specifically MATLAB and Python.
- Practical experience in mechanical or electrical design and analysis.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods including machining, casting, forging, welding, and bonding.
- Familiarity with mechanical drawing practices, dimensioning, and tolerancing.
- At least one prior internship, co-op, or hands-on experience through clubs or teams such as robotics, rocketry, or automotive racing.

- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain an interim U.S. government Secret clearance is required prior to the start date.
