About the role#
The Strategic Defense Solutions group at Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op for the Fall 2027 term. You will work on the development, modification, integration, and testing of aircraft and ground vehicle training simulators. These projects range from simple desktop trainers to high-fidelity full flight systems. You will work on both clean-sheet designs and design reuse projects, including mechanical equipment, electronics cabinets, and custom support structures.
What you'll do#
- Perform mechanical design and layout of simulator components, structures, and facilities using 3D CAD software.
- Create and review 2D CAD drawings, applying standard dimensioning and tolerancing practices.
- Collaborate with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams to ensure design suitability for the final product.
- Participate in the full lifecycle of simulator development, from initial design to final testing.
What you'll need#
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or advanced degree program in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Experience or coursework using 3D CAD software.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Background in the design, manufacture, and integration of mechanical hardware of moderate complexity.

- This position is located in Sterling, Virginia.
- This is an on-site role. You will work primarily at the office location.
- This is a paid, full-time co-op position.
- U.S. citizenship is required for this role.
