About the role#
Prairie State Generating Company is hiring a Mechanical Engineering intern for the Summer 2027 term. This paid, full-time program offers hands-on training and industry experience within power generation engineering. You will work on-site at our power plant in Illinois.
What you'll do#
- Work on plant engineering projects focused on optimization and improvement.
- Assist with project management tasks.
- Support research and development efforts for plant projects.
- Deliver technical presentations to groups.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET accredited mechanical engineering or related program.
- Good academic standing.
- Availability for a 12 to 13 week program from mid-May through mid-August 2027.
- Ability to understand operating procedures and Safety Data Sheets.
- Knowledge of safety and health hazards related to your assignments.
- Strong communication skills to work with supervisors and co-workers.
- Ability to work unsupervised when needed.
- Physical capability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, wear respirators, and lift up to 25 pounds.

- Location: Illinois, United States.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $25.00 per hour for undergraduates and $28.00 per hour for graduate students.
- Work environment: You will work in office, power plant, and coal mine settings. You may be exposed to industrial safety hazards, noise, and dirt.
