    About the role#

    As a Mechanical Engineering Thermal-Hydraulic intern, you will support thermal-hydraulic analysis for nuclear fuel and related components. This is a full-time, paid internship based in Columbia, South Carolina. You will report to the Thermal-Hydraulic and Seismic Engineering and Design and Support Manager.

    What you'll do#

    • Support thermal-hydraulic testing activities for nuclear fuel development projects.
    • Gain knowledge of nuclear steam supply systems, fuel assembly mechanical design, and reactor core internals.
    • Study fluid mechanics in reactors, fuel rod vibration, heat transfer, fretting wear, and departure from nucleate boiling thermal analysis.
    • Work with internal departments to support ongoing nuclear fuel projects.

    What you'll need#

    • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on thermal hydraulics.
    • Completion of your sophomore year of college.
    • Coursework in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, or equivalent classes.
    • Experience with MATLAB, Linux, and LabVIEW.
    • Experience in analysis and testing.

    • Location: Columbia, South Carolina.
    • Work modality: Hybrid.
    • Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
    • Status: Full-time, paid position.
    • Compensation: $25.40 to $29.00 per hour, depending on experience and skills.
