About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Idaho Power, you will work under supervision to support our engineering teams. This program provides hands-on experience in the utility industry, allowing you to build technical skills while contributing to real projects. You will gain exposure to both office-based analysis and field operations.
What you'll do#
- Visit customer sites to collect and analyze data on energy systems like HVAC, refrigeration, and pumping.
- Provide suggestions to improve energy system efficiency for commercial and industrial customers.
- Investigate how utility materials perform in real-world environments.
- Observe field operations and research industry standards.
- Develop and implement a quality assurance process for material evaluation.
- Draft reports detailing problems, alternatives, and recommendations.
What you'll need#
- A high school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in an ABET accredited engineering program.
- Junior, non-graduating senior, or advanced degree status.
- General knowledge of engineering principles.
- Ability to analyze datasets and manage projects.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- A valid driver's license.
- Capacity to work both independently and as part of a team.
