About the role#
Idaho Power is hiring Electrical Engineering Interns for the summer of 2027. This is a full-time, on-site, seasonal position based in Boise, Idaho. You will work under the supervision of engineering staff to gain hands-on experience while supporting various utility operations and planning projects.
What you'll do#
- Assist engineering staff within an assigned group while receiving regular guidance from team leaders.
- Calculate arc flash incident energy ratings for the primary distribution system and verify protective device settings using Synergi Electric feeder models.
- Create and update customer load profiles to support distribution engineering analysis.
- Convert bus-branch power flow models into node-breaker models and refine processes for model validation and quality assurance.
- Review generator interconnection and transmission service agreements while tracking project milestones.
- Evaluate communication systems, including fiber optics and microwave radio, to support site modernization.
- Analyze historical load forecasts against actual system performance and develop metrics to quantify forecasting accuracy.
- Interface with internal departments and external organizations as part of your project work.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited engineering program at a junior, non-graduating senior, or advanced degree level.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to manage projects, analyze datasets, and draft reports on findings and recommendations.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
