About the role#
Hawaiian Electric offers a project-based internship for students to gain professional experience. You will work with an assigned mentor to research and execute an objective-based project. You will also participate in cross-functional activities and present your achievements to management at the end of the summer.
What you'll do#
Depending on your placement, you will contribute to one of three areas:
- T&D Engineering: Develop engineering plans for construction, conduct field inspections, perform design calculations, prepare cost estimates, and manage project budgets and schedules.
- Engineering Standards: Develop and maintain technical specifications, pilot new technologies, provide training to field crews and engineering, perform material and fault analysis, and collaborate with vendors.
- Customer Engineering: Design and coordinate electrical services for residential and commercial customers.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an active student at a post-secondary school.
- Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Good academic standing.
- Expected graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Ability to attend school in Fall 2027.
- An official digital copy of your transcript.

- Location: Honolulu, Hawaii.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
- Modality: On-site.
