About the role#
Idaho Power is hiring a Civil Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work within an assigned group to assist engineering staff, gain experience, and interface with internal departments. This is a full-time, on-site, paid position based in Boise, Idaho.
What you'll do#
- Design a new or rebuilt section of transmission line using provided route, survey, voltage, and environmental data.
- Select pole heights, span lengths, structure types, pole locations, conductor tensions, and sags.
- Review designs periodically through a QA/QC program with transmission design engineers.
- Identify and perform improvements to existing design processes and standards.
- Support the transmission group on additional engineering requests throughout the service territory.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current enrollment in an ABET accredited engineering program as a junior, non-graduating senior, or advanced degree student.
- Majors accepted include Civil, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- General knowledge of engineering principles and a developing understanding of the utility business environment.
- Ability to manage projects, analyze datasets, and work both independently and on teams.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to draft reports and maintain effective working relationships.

- Location: Boise, Idaho.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Status: Full-time, non-exempt, seasonal.
- This role is sedentary, though occasional field visits or outdoor work in various weather conditions may be required. Company-paid housing is available if needed.
