About the role#
This internship provides practical experience within the utility industry. You will work alongside experienced engineers on projects with defined instructions and expected outcomes. The role involves a mix of office and field work, giving you direct exposure to engineering applications.
What you'll do#
- Assist engineers with surveying existing facilities and construction layouts.
- Coordinate underground utility locates and provide database support.
- Develop construction drawings and documents, including structure and foundation CAD drawings.
- Review shop drawings and manage as-built file documentation.
- Build design models using PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE.
- Gather and analyze data using established procedures.
- Support maintenance and operations through troubleshooting, problem identification, and engineering analysis.
- Assist with the development of engineering goals, budgets, and programs.
- Ensure all work activities comply with environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve methods and review assignments for cost effectiveness.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 2.50.
- Availability to work part time, roughly 10 to 15 hours per week, during the semester.
- Availability to work full time during the summer.

- The internship is based in Lexington or Louisville, Kentucky.
- This is an on-site position.
- The term begins in Winter 2027.
- This is a paid internship.
