About the role#
Prairie State Generating Company offers a summer internship for students interested in corporate accounting and finance within the power generation and coal mining industries. This 12-week paid program provides hands-on training and exposure to professionals in the field. Interns work primarily in an office setting, though they may occasionally visit coal mining or power operations.
What you'll do#
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
- Assist with treasury functions, including weekly and monthly cash reports.
- Perform accounts payable and general accounting tasks.
- Help evaluate and test internal accounting controls.
- Prepare ad hoc and internal reports.
- Maintain electronic and archived accounting records.
- Support the finance team on special projects, including budgeting, forecasting, payroll, tax, and compliance.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a college degree program for Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Good academic standing.
- Availability for the full 12-week program from late May through mid-August.
- Knowledge of general accounting and finance principles.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to read and understand operating and accounting policies.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Compensation: $25.00 per hour for undergraduate students and $28.00 per hour for graduate students.
