    About the role#

    The Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls Intern supports the maintenance team at our power plant. You will help install, test, and repair auxiliary equipment including power distribution systems, motors, and pumps. This role focuses on keeping plant systems running efficiently while maintaining environmental and safety standards.

    What you'll do#

    • Troubleshoot and calibrate field instrumentation and control systems.
    • Maintain electrical components such as relays, motors, and pumps.
    • Use the computerized maintenance management system to track work orders and inventory.
    • Assist with preventative and predictive maintenance tasks.
    • Review maintenance procedures to ensure safe and consistent operation.
    • Identify equipment issues and recommend solutions.
    • Participate in safety meetings and perform general housekeeping.
    • Requisition necessary parts and supplies for repairs.

    What you'll need#

    • High School diploma or GED.
    • Current enrollment in a two or four-year technical degree program in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
    • Knowledge of power plant electrical systems, including 13,800V, 4,160V, and 480V distribution.
    • Familiarity with DCS platforms like Emerson Ovation, Foxboro, or ABB.
    • Experience with HMI graphic development and configuration.
    • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and Safety Data Sheets.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Strong communication skills to work effectively with supervisors and team members.
    • Ability to work in close quarters, at elevated heights, and in various weather conditions.
    • Capability to wear required safety gear, including respirators and protective clothing.
    • Ability to bend, stoop, and climb stairs or ladders for a full shift.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, paid internship located on-site in Illinois.
    • The position follows a rolling schedule.
    • Base pay is $25.00 per hour for undergraduate students and $28.00 per hour for graduate students.
