About the role#
This is a full-time, paid Mechanical Design Internship based in Calgary, Alberta. You will work on-site with the Research and Development Hardware team to support product design, testing, and field operations. This role operates on a rolling basis.
What you'll do#
- Gather requirements for design requests by working with field technicians and team members.
- Design parts and assemblies using SolidWorks and prepare drawings for machine shops.
- Coordinate with vendors and machine shops to establish pricing and build prototypes.
- Prepare test fixtures and run tests to ensure designs meet requirements.
- Support the R&D Hardware team by testing new products and theories.
- Brainstorm new product ideas and analyze field failures to identify improvements.
- Write and update assembly procedures and bill-of-materials tables for manufacturing.
- Use tools like milling machines for rapid in-house prototyping.
- Perform field installations and rig trials as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in the 3rd year of a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering program.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check.
- Experience with SolidWorks is an asset, as is the ability to upload samples of your technical documents and design files.
- Knowledge of machine component design, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and dimension tolerances is helpful.
