Forward Deployed Software Engineer, Internship - Defense Tech

About the role#

Forward Deployed Software Engineers (FDSEs) work directly with customers to understand their most critical problems and implement data-driven solutions. As an intern on the Defense Tech team, you will contribute to projects that help defense customers plan and execute operations, manage personnel and equipment, and integrate with legacy systems. You will be treated as a full-time engineer, taking ownership of real-world projects with significant freedom and minimal supervision.

What you'll do#

• Work in small teams to own the end-to-end execution of high-stakes projects.
• Deliver Palantir Defense capabilities to critical mission partners.
• Discuss architecture with fellow engineers and establish team strategy.
• Wrangle massive-scale data and develop custom web applications.
• Engage directly with customer contacts to understand and solve their operational challenges.

What you'll need#

• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Data Science with an expected graduation in 2027.
• Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Java, C++, or TypeScript/JavaScript.
• Active US Security clearance, or the eligibility and willingness to obtain one prior to the start of the internship.
• Ability to work independently, learn continuously, and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Interest in solving complex problems using large-scale data, cloud infrastructure, and front-end frameworks.
• Willingness to travel to client sites as needed (25-50% travel preferred).
