About the role#
The Privacy and Civil Liberties (PCL) Engineering team works at the intersection of technology, law, and ethics. This team builds software to ensure that operational effectiveness does not come at the expense of safety, governance, or fundamental rights. As an intern, you will join an interdisciplinary group of engineers, designers, and policy experts to tackle complex socio-technical challenges. You will own high-stakes projects from start to finish, working with significant independence to deliver outcomes that impact our customers.
What you'll do#
- Design and develop full-stack software products focused on privacy, data protection, AI governance, and accountability.
- Improve core platform products and create new tools for data protection or user-facing AI governance workflows.
- Apply the platform to improve customer workflows and address operational challenges.
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical teammates to understand customer needs and policy impacts.
- Engage with and help shape the latest developments in law and policy as they relate to your technical work.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an engineering-related degree program, such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Physics, or Data Science.
- Graduation date planned for 2027.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Python, Java, C++, or TypeScript/JavaScript.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in diverse teams and work in an environment with evolving objectives.
- A strong interest in the impact of technology on society and a drive to solve difficult problems.
