EPSS Systems & Data Management Intern

About the role#

The Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings (EPSS) Systems & Data Management team maintains and enhances the data pipelines and applications that support wildfire mitigation efforts. This role provides hands-on experience using Palantir Foundry to manage data for over 2 million customers and 40,000 miles of conductor. You will work alongside data scientists, engineers, and analysts to support the operational maintenance of systems that enable protective devices to detect faults and reduce utility-caused ignitions.

What you'll do#

• Manage the data pipeline and controls that determine EPSS program scope, including specific devices and circuits.
• Ensure system posture remains consistent to support wildfire prevention efforts.
• Support operations through reporting, tracking, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Develop new approaches to device state validation by integrating real-time telemetry and secondary data sources.
• Build data products to support the reporting and management of 2026 initiatives focused on improving electric reliability and reducing outage durations.
• Assist with Python/PySpark coding, debugging, and the development of front-end application features.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Engineering or Data Science at an accredited university.
• Must be continuing education toward your degree during or after the internship.
• Reliable transportation to and from the work location.
• Demonstrated experience or school projects related to energy, the utility industry, or large-scale data management.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Preferred qualifications include a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and certifications such as Lean Six Sigma, EIT, or FE.

• Location: Oakland, California.
• Term: Summer 2026.
• Modality: Hybrid, with an expectation to work on-site at the Oakland general office approximately 3 days per week.
• Employment type: Full-time, paid internship.
