About the role#
The EPSS Systems & Data Management team maintains and enhances the data pipelines and applications that support the Enhanced Powerline Safety Settings program. This program uses protective devices to reduce utility-caused ignitions and wildfires. As an intern, you will work with data scientists, engineers, and analysts to manage system data, experiment with new tools, and build products that improve electric reliability.
What you'll do#
- Manage the data pipeline and controls that determine the EPSS program scope for devices and circuits.
- Ensure the system maintains the appropriate posture to prevent wildfires.
- Support operations through reporting, tracking, and process improvement.
- Develop new approaches to device state validation using real-time telemetry and other data sources.
- Build data products to support the management of 2026 initiatives, focusing on improving reliability and reducing outage durations.
- Assist with Python and PySpark coding, data pipeline maintenance, and front-end application enhancements.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Data Science at an accredited university.
- Must be continuing education towards your degree during or after the internship.
- Reliable transportation to and from the work location.
- Demonstrated school projects or work experience in energy, the utility industry, or large-scale data management.
- Preferred qualifications include a 3.0 GPA or higher, Lean Six Sigma certification, or EIT/FE certification.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
