About the role#
The Process Technology Co-op Student position at Orion Steel is an on-site opportunity based in Red Deer, Alberta. This role runs during the Fall 2026 term and provides exposure to various aspects of pipe manufacturing, including pipe forming, welding, heat treatment, and threading. You will work within the Process Technology department to support data collection, testing management, and process improvement initiatives.
What you'll do#
- Participate in tubular specialized testing projects and manage testing for the facility.
- Review process data to identify non-conforming conditions and coordinate with the QA department to address them.
- Conduct process analyses using techniques such as statistical process control and data collection.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Maintain an on-site presence to collect data, answer questions, and ensure samples are properly gathered.
- Gain exposure to mechanical testing and metallographic analyses.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a recognized Engineering program (Mechanical, Industrial, Civil, Chemical, Physics, or Mathematics) at a Canadian University.
- Completion of at least one year of your engineering program.
- Knowledge of engineering principles, specifically statics and strength of materials.
- Strong detail orientation and proficiency with MS Office.
- A self-starter mindset with a passion for process improvement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, good organization, and a commitment to safety.
