    About the role#

    This is an 8-month internship within the Capital Markets Investment Analytics (CMIA) team at Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. You will work alongside a small group of investment professionals in Toronto to build and maintain software-based trading portfolios. You will receive mentorship from senior team members while contributing to the development of tools for back-testing, execution, and performance attribution.

    What you'll do#

    • Improve and update the internal proprietary investment strategy codebase.
    • Investigate and attribute portfolio profit and loss to specific investment strategies and factors.
    • Source, clean, and visualize various datasets.
    • Develop and optimize infrastructure for portfolio implementation and analytical tools.
    • Propose new ideas and identify areas for technical improvement.
    • Gain exposure to asset classes such as equities, fixed income, currencies, and commodities.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in a quantitative field like Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or Finance.
    • A solid understanding of software engineering concepts, including design patterns, object-oriented programming, databases, and version control.
    • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, MATLAB, or JavaScript.
    • A strong interest in financial markets and systematic investment strategies.
    • A creative, resourceful, and entrepreneurial mindset.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
    • Term: Winter 2027 (January 2027 to August 2027).
    • Modality: This is an on-site role.
    • Compensation: This is a paid position with an expected hourly range of $30 to $36, depending on experience.
    • Status: This is a full-time internship. Candidates must be returning to their studies after the work term.
