    About the role#

    The Quantitative Strategies and Research (QSR) team at Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan is looking for an intern for the Winter 2027 term. This team manages a diversified portfolio using quantitative models and data science. You will work within the Capital Markets group, collaborating with a team of 15 professionals on research projects, portfolio management, and technology development. You will report to a senior team member who will guide your work and help you develop your own ideas.

    What you'll do#

    • Contribute to research and development initiatives using Python and Matlab.
    • Apply quantitative techniques, including statistics and machine learning, to test investment and portfolio hypotheses.
    • Review, critique, and implement research papers from academia or the practitioner community.
    • Present findings to the team and incorporate feedback into your work.
    • Manage datasets through sourcing, cleaning, visualization, and predictive modelling.
    • Propose and test original research ideas on real-world data.
    • Gain exposure to asset classes such as equities, fixed income, currencies, and commodities.
    • Assist in the development and optimization of portfolio implementation infrastructure.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a Master's, Ph.D., or upper-year undergraduate program in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, or a related field.
    • A demonstrated interest in research through academic papers, theses, or personal projects.
    • Broad programming experience, specifically in Python and Matlab.
    • Curiosity about applying technology to understand markets and build systems.
    • You must be returning to your studies after the work term.

    Location & details#

    • This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship based in Toronto, Ontario.
    • The term runs for four months starting in January 2027.
    • The hourly pay range for this role is $30 to $36, depending on experience.
