About the role#
Mackenzie Investments is hiring an intern for the Winter 2027 term. You will join the Multi-Asset Strategies team for an 8-month period. This is a full-time position requiring 37.5 hours per week. You will work alongside and receive mentorship from a Python and Pandas expert. The role involves pair programming, test-driven development, and using automation tools like LibCST and Fixit to improve codebase quality.
What you'll do#
- Replace nested loops with vectorized Pandas operations or convert operations to Polars.
- Introduce modular utility functions to reduce code duplication.
- Add unit tests to functions that currently lack them.
- Use characterization tests to ensure output consistency for unchanged inputs.
- Optimize data loading routines for large files.
- Clean up legacy code to follow PEP8 and readability standards.
What you'll need#
- Undergraduate background in Computer Science, Engineering, Commerce, Economics, or Mathematics.
- Strong academic performance.
- Familiarity with Python and motivation to deepen your programming expertise.
- Basic understanding of Pandas or other data-centric libraries.
- Curiosity about solving large-scale data problems.
- Strong interest in financial markets and the ability to interpret economic news.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work well in both remote and in-person team environments.

- Locations: Winnipeg, Manitoba or Toronto, Ontario.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January to August).
- Modality: Hybrid (three days per week in office).
- Compensation: Paid position with an annual base salary range of $68,250 to $78,000, prorated for the term.
