About the role#
Northrop Grumman is seeking Software Engineer Interns for the Navigation, Intelligence, and Connectivity division. You will join a team focused on mission-enabling solutions for global security. This internship provides an opportunity to work on navigation and mission-planning systems while gaining experience in a professional engineering environment.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with senior engineers to design, develop, and integrate software components.
- Write clean, maintainable C/C++ and Python code for embedded and real-time platforms.
- Perform unit, integration, and system-level testing using automated frameworks and continuous integration pipelines.
- Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality.
- Document design decisions, API specifications, and operational procedures.
- Troubleshoot and profile performance for flight-critical software.
- Contribute to safety-critical certification artifacts.
- Work within Agile Scrum teams, including attending sprint planning and daily stand-ups.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to support mission requirements.
- Prototype emerging technologies to enhance navigation accuracy and resilience.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related STEM field.
- Intent to remain enrolled full-time in Fall 2027.
- Availability to work 40 hours per week for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
- U.S. citizenship, as this role requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher.
- Hands-on experience with embedded C/C++ development.
- Proficiency in Python for prototyping and data analysis.
- Familiarity with safety-critical development standards like DO-178C or ISO 26262.
- Experience with Agile/Scrum practices, automated testing, and code review tools.
- Exposure to defense acquisition or DoD software lifecycle processes.
