About the role#
This is a 12-week, paid, full-time Summer 2027 internship based on-site in Simi Valley, California. You will work alongside engineers to design, develop, and test embedded software for unmanned aerial and robotic systems. The program provides hands-on experience across the development lifecycle, from initial prototyping to final field validation.
What you'll do#
- Write and test embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios, and other onboard components.
- Implement software in C/C++ for real-time and bare-metal systems using microcontrollers.
- Integrate software with hardware and perform debugging using lab tools like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Collaborate with electrical, systems, and mechanical engineering teams.
- Participate in peer reviews, documentation, and configuration management.
- Contribute to lab and field testing to support mission scenarios.
- Assist in creating prototypes and proof-of-concept demonstrations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Basic knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and low-level concepts like memory management, interrupts, or device drivers.
- Familiarity with C, C++, or Python.
- Exposure to hardware communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, or CAN.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work in a team.
- Hands-on experience with platforms like STM32, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi is a plus.
- Familiarity with RTOS environments, Linux-based development, and lab equipment is preferred.
- This position requires compliance with ITAR/EAR regulations, meaning you must be a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual).
