About the role#
The Nebraska Department of Transportation is looking for a Roadway Design Engineering Intern to join our team in Lincoln. This role provides on-the-job training and mentorship as you support the planning and design of the state highway system.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the design of roadway construction projects, including horizontal and vertical alignment and cross sections.
- Prepare preliminary and final construction project plans.
- Review work of varying scope and complexity.
- Document engineering decisions, write special provisions, and manage project correspondence files.
- Participate in project meetings, such as public hearings and pre-construction sessions.
- Conduct project field inspections.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least a three-fourths time student in good standing.
- Preferred status is a second semester sophomore majoring in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, or Environmental Engineering.
- Experience with Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work at least 10 hours per week during the school term.

- This position is located on-site in Lincoln, Nebraska.
- This is a paid, full-time eligible internship with a rolling term.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required.
