About the role#
This is a paid internship opportunity within the Nebraska Department of Transportation Project Development Division. Interns work closely with a licensed Professional Engineer to gain experience in the planning, design, and construction of highway projects. This role involves managing multiple projects at various stages of development.
What you'll do#
- Conduct engineering reviews and prepare technical reports for highway and bridge construction projects.
- Review and analyze pavement conditions, structural data, and other roadway information to identify project needs.
- Develop detailed project cost estimates by calculating quantities according to Standard Specifications for Highway Construction.
- Coordinate and maintain communication between department divisions and district offices regarding project scope.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining project status documentation.
- Assist with preliminary survey requests and perform project site visits as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a three-fourths time student in good standing, majoring in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering.
- At least one year of higher education in the Transportation Engineering field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
- Experience using CAD software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD.
- Ability to work at least 10 hours per week during academic sessions.
- A valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
