About the role#
Ancestry is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer Co-op to join our team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work with data scientists, engineers, and product teams to build and deploy scalable machine learning solutions. This is a part-time, work-study opportunity for students currently enrolled in advanced degree programs.
What you'll do#
- Develop and deploy machine learning and large language models.
- Build and optimize AI agents to improve automation and decision-making.
- Improve model inference speed, storage efficiency, and scalability for real-world use.
- Create pipelines and MLOps workflows to streamline model training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Contribute to the development of evaluation and monitoring platforms for ML, LLMs, and AI agents.
- Experiment with new technologies in the ML and agentic space.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an advanced degree program (Master's or PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Linguistics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
- Experience with GenAI, LLMs, and agentic frameworks.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to write clean, scalable code.
- A curious, proactive mindset.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and ML development and deployment tools is preferred.
- Experience with Node.js, Java, RAG, vector databases, or LLM fine-tuning is a plus.

- This position is fully remote within the United States.
- This is a paid, part-time co-op role.
