About the role#
We are looking for a summer intern to join our machine learning team. This role focuses on the modeling of unconstrained text to support our educational assessment programs, primarily using transformer-based deep learning models. You will spend your time comparing multiple approaches for the automated scoring of Spanish constructed response items. This includes experimenting with multilingual language models and evaluating performance using industry metrics like QWK, accuracy, and SMD.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with psychometricians and data scientists to define research problems, design experiments, implement studies, and document results.
- Write Python code using machine learning frameworks to ingest and clean data, build models, and evaluate performance.
- Document, archive, and present your project work.
- Participate in a multi-disciplinary team to discuss methods and results for this project and others.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Master’s or Ph.D. program in data science, computer science, mathematics, linguistics, or educational measurement.
- Experience working with text and natural language processing tools.
- Coding ability with Python.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a team.
- Familiarity with written Spanish is an asset.

- This is a full-time, paid summer 2026 internship.
- The role is fully remote. Candidates must reside and work within the United States.
