About the role#
As a Substation Electrical Engineer Intern within our Grid business unit, you will join a project team to support the execution of engineering work. You will work under the direction of senior engineers on projects involving new designs, modifications, and upgrades for transmission, substation, distribution, renewable, and battery energy storage systems. This role is an opportunity to apply your academic background to real-world engineering challenges.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.
- Support project reporting by tracking and evaluating project activities, progress, and data.
- Participate in power designs and prepare specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and installation services.
- Solve engineering problems by using data and modern tools, including automation and agentic AI, to improve workflows and deliver efficient designs.
- Use programming or scripting, such as Python or MATLAB, to automate calculations, design checks, and data transformation.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a Bachelor or Master of Science degree program in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of design techniques and principles used to produce technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Ability to visualize parts in 3D without computer assistance.
- Familiarity with designing or developing AI applications or agents.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in campus or community settings.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize issues, create solutions, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as a self-starter.

- Compensation: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour.
