About the role#
Sargent & Lundy is looking for an AI & Automation Intern to join the Enterprise Data & Analytics team for the Summer 2027 term. You will work with experienced engineers and data professionals to solve problems in the power and energy sector. This role focuses on translating business needs into technical solutions using AI and automation tools. You will be expected to think critically about your approaches and learn quickly.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with team members and business stakeholders to understand challenges and define project success.
- Contribute to the development of AI-driven solutions and automations using Python.
- Support data collection, cleaning, transformation, and feature engineering.
- Use AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot and Cursor in your daily workflow.
- Help with solution testing, evaluation, and performance analysis.
- Participate in team discussions and document your findings, including what worked and what did not.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python for scripting, data analysis, or application development.
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and experience with libraries such as NumPy, pandas, and scikit-learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A problem-solving mindset and the ability to break down ambiguous tasks.
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub and modern development workflows.

- Location: Chicago, Illinois.
- Work Modality: Hybrid (3 days per week in the office, 2 days remote).
- Employment Type: Full-time.
- Compensation: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour.
