About the role#
MNP is seeking a Summer Student to join the Assurance and Accounting team in Drayton Valley for the summer of 2027. This full-time, paid position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in financial reporting and client services within a professional accounting environment.
What you'll do#
- Build technical proficiency in compilations, reviews, audits, bookkeeping, and tax.
- Set up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses, manage multiple files at once, and conduct inventory counts.
- Summarize financial status by preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other relevant reports.
- Review, investigate, and correct discrepancies or irregularities in financial entries and documents.
- Collaborate with the client engagement team and build relationships with client contacts.
- Perform walk-throughs of accounts receivable, accounts payable, capital assets, and payroll with clients.
- Assess audit evidence and prepare technical reports, correspondence, and client summaries.
- Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting.
What you'll need#
- Completion of, or progress toward, a bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration, with a preference for accounting or finance majors.
- Completion of, or progress toward, prerequisites for admission into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) by the start of employment.
- Previous accounting office experience is an asset.
- Customer or client service experience is an asset.
- Experience with accounting and tax software is an asset.
- Ability to travel as necessary.
