About the role#
MNP is seeking a Summer Student for the Assurance and Accounting team in Drayton Valley for the Summer 2027 term. This full-time, on-site position involves supporting a team of professionals in providing financial information and advisory services to clients. You will gain hands-on experience in various accounting functions while working in a collaborative environment.
What you'll do#
- Develop technical skills in compilations, reviews, audits, bookkeeping, and tax.
- Apply knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, and ASPE standards to client files.
- Set up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses, manage multiple files simultaneously, and conduct inventory counts.
- Perform walk-throughs of accounts receivable, accounts payable, capital assets, and payroll.
- Summarize financial status by preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other relevant reports.
- Assess the appropriateness of audit evidence for various financial categories.
- Review, investigate, and correct discrepancies in financial entries and reports.
- Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting.
- Prepare correspondence, technical reports, and client summaries.
- Collaborate with the client engagement team and build professional relationships with client contacts.
- Contribute to process improvements using internal programs and systems.
- Maintain flexibility to travel as required.
What you'll need#
- Completion of, or working towards, a bachelor degree in commerce or business administration, with a preference for accounting or finance majors.
- Completion of, or working towards, prerequisites for admission into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) upon starting employment.
- Previous accounting office experience is considered an asset.
- Customer or client service experience is considered an asset.
- Experience working with accounting and tax software is considered an asset.
