About the role#
MNP is seeking a Co-op Student to join the Assurance and Accounting team in Edmonton for an eight-month term starting in January 2027. This full-time, paid position involves working directly with a team of professionals to provide financial information and advisory services to clients.
What you'll do#
- Develop technical skills in compilations, reviews, audits, bookkeeping, and tax.
- Apply knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, and ASPE standards.
- Prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports to summarize client status.
- Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting to accounts.
- Perform walk-throughs of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and capital asset transactions.
- Review and investigate financial discrepancies or irregularities.
- Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries, and presentations regarding engagement findings.
- Collaborate with the client engagement team and build professional relationships with client contacts.
- Set up files for new clients and conduct inventory counts.
- Contribute to process improvements and maintain flexibility to travel as required.
What you'll need#
- Completion of, or progress toward, a bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration, with a preference for accounting or finance majors.
- Completion of, or progress toward, prerequisites for admission into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) by the start of employment.
- Previous accounting office experience is considered an asset.
- Customer or client service experience is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with accounting and tax software is considered an asset.
