About the role#
This is an eight-month co-op position based in Edmonton, Alberta, starting in January 2027. You will work with the Assurance and Accounting team to provide financial information and advisory services to clients. This is a full-time, paid role.
What you'll do#
- Develop technical skills in compilations, reviews, audits, bookkeeping, and tax.
- Apply knowledge of IFRS, GAAP, and ASPE standards.
- Set up files for new clients and manage multiple files simultaneously.
- Perform walk-throughs for accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and capital assets.
- Assess audit evidence for expenses, revenues, and other financial accounts.
- Review, investigate, and correct discrepancies in financial entries and reports.
- Summarize financial status by preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports.
- Establish charts of accounts and prepare entries for posting.
- Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries, and presentations regarding engagement findings.
- Collaborate with the client engagement team and build relationships with client contacts.
- Contribute to process improvements and maintain flexibility to travel as needed.
What you'll need#
- Completion of, or working towards, a bachelor degree in commerce or business administration with a preference for accounting or finance majors.
- Completion of, or working towards, prerequisites for admission into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) upon starting the role.
- Previous accounting office experience is considered an asset.
- Customer or client service experience is considered an asset.
- Experience with accounting and tax software is considered an asset.
