About the role#
This internship provides practical, hands-on experience in textile conservation and museum collection care within the Collections department. You will work under professional guidance to gain insight into long-term preservation needs and museum documentation standards.
What you'll do#
- Handle textile artifacts with care
- Execute condition assessments
- Perform basic hand sewing
- Enter records into the collection database
- Write reports
- Participate in three in-person professional development seminars
- Complete a final presentation at the end of the semester
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student, or graduation within the past 12 months
- Pursuit of or a degree in textile conservation pre-program
- Interest in textile conservation
- Some experience handling fragile museum artifacts
- Understanding of condition reports and their use in a museum
- Some experience with database entry
- Good hand skills
