About the role#
The MNHS Press Editorial Intern supports the work of the MNHS Press, MNopedia, and Minnesota History magazine. You will observe and contribute to the publishing process by assisting with editorial tasks, manuscript evaluation, and production support. This role is designed to provide experience to those looking to enter the publishing industry.
What you'll do#
- Evaluate proposals and manuscripts for the Press and participate in development discussions.
- Assist with copyediting, proofing, and fact-checking manuscripts, articles, and endnotes.
- Conduct photo research for titles and articles.
- Write and review metadata, compile book notes for the Take Three feature, and write an entry for MNopedia.
- Log and acknowledge article submissions and identify broken links for MNopedia.
- Attend editorial, acquisitions, launch, and production meetings.
- Assist with mailings, database maintenance, and complete an editing test.
- Participate in required professional development seminars and prepare a final presentation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student, or graduation within the past 12 months.
- A degree or progress toward a degree in English, history, anthropology, journalism, American studies, or a related field.
- Ability to research, write, and communicate clearly and accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks under different supervisors.
- Familiarity with or a willingness to learn Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs, and FileMaker Pro.
Location & details#
- Location: St Paul, Minnesota.
- Term: Winter 2027 to Spring 2027 (January 19, 2027, to May 23, 2027).
- Commitment: Part-time, 15 hours per week.
- Compensation: Paid position at $17.02 per hour.
- Modality: On-site.
