About the role#
The MNHS Press Design Intern assists our publishing staff across print production, design, marketing, editorial, and administrative tasks. You will work in an office environment on a mix of computer-based and hands-on projects. This position offers the chance to learn about the book industry through direct collaboration with our team and independent project work.
What you'll do#
- Create print and digital book promotions with the marketing staff.
- Design and layout academic print or electronic direct mailing pieces.
- Assist with press kits and Amazon A+ content production.
- Research potential books, anthologies, and reprints using library and internet resources.
- Conduct photo and art research for book covers and interiors.
- Handle publication art assets, including image scanning, photo repair, and cartographic projects.
- Support new titles with design work, including potential cover and interior design assignments.
- Create charts, graphs, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Attend acquisitions, production, and staff meetings to learn about publishing business operations.
What you'll need#
- Current undergraduate or graduate student, or a graduate of the past 12 months.
- Degree pursuit or completion in Graphic Design, Marketing, Business Administration, English, Art, History, or Communications.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and the Google software suite.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Interest in book design, production, social media, and marketing.
Location & details#
- Location: St Paul, Minnesota.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 19, 2027 to May 23, 2027).
- Commitment: 10 hours per week, typically two 5-hour shifts.
- Status: Part-time, temporary, and paid.
- Requirements: Interns must participate in three in-person professional development seminars and deliver a final presentation on May 23, 2027.
