About the role#
Michigan United is seeking a Canvassing Fellowship Lead to help execute an electoral canvassing campaign for the 2026 election cycle. This is a temporary, full-time position based in Macomb, Michigan. You will work under the mentorship of staff to lead outreach efforts, register voters, and mobilize the community. This role involves both hands-on canvassing and leadership responsibilities to support a team of fellows.
What you'll do#
- Execute the electoral canvassing program through door-to-door conversations.
- Provide daily support to the management team and fellow canvassers.
- Shadow fellows in the field to provide feedback on their conversations and performance.
- Prepare and organize materials for daily canvassing activities.
- Set standards for metrics and conversation quality while ensuring data integrity.
- Support team launches, onboarding, and morale.
- Participate in daily briefings and debriefings with the canvassing team.
- Engage in ongoing training to develop organizing and leadership skills.
What you'll need#
- A commitment to the MI United Action theory of change and a focus on racial, gender, and economic justice.
- Impeccable integrity and a desire to grow as a leader.
- Effective communication skills and comfort engaging with the public.
- Reliable transportation to travel to and from canvassing locations.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- A data-capable smartphone.
- Previous experience working with diverse staff is preferred, as is familiarity with the MiniVAN app or proficiency in Spanish or Arabic.
Location & details#
- Location: Macomb, Michigan (On-site).
- Term: Summer 2026 through November 6, 2026.
- Compensation: $25 per hour, 40 hours per week.
- Bonus: $1,250 retention bonus for staff remaining through November 6, 2026.
- Benefits: Includes health insurance, health savings account or stipend, paid time off, paid sick time, mileage reimbursement, and stipends for internet and phone usage.
